Where it is

Finding the park

Wild Horse sits inside Evergreen Park at 55051 Township Rd 710, on the southern edge of Grande Prairie in the County of Grande Prairie No. 1. The casino answers at (780) 532-3265. For anything about the grounds, the park office is on 780-532-3279.

Coming from downtown, head south on 98th Street. It turns into Resources Road, which carries you to the lights at Highway 668. Turn left there, heading east, and watch for the park sign on the right. Evergreen Park keeps its own site at evergreenpark.ca.

Machines only

Machines, no tables

The gaming floor at Wild Horse holds slot machines and VLTs. There are no table games, so blackjack and roulette stay at Great Northern Casino on 107 Avenue. The floor runs from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. every day, and only adults 18 and over go in.

Winner's Edge works here too. Points can be earned and redeemed at Wild Horse, with sign-up at Guest Services or at winnersedge.ca.

A straight gravel range road runs through a field of yellow canola toward a red barn and a line of aspens under tall summer clouds.

Races on screens

Races on the screens

Alongside the machines, Evergreen Park offers off-track betting. About a dozen screens carry live races from tracks across North America and Alberta. Bets go through self-serve kiosks. Winnings are paid on site, so a winning ticket does not have to ride home with you.

Food

The lounge and The Pines

Wild Horse Lounge pours drinks and serves meals from 9 a.m. to midnight every day. Breakfast runs from 9 to 11 a.m., which suits a morning arrival from out of town. The Pines Family Restaurant, also on the park grounds, has a kids menu. It opens from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day. Between 9 p.m. and midnight, the lounge keeps serving and The Pines has closed.

Parking

Parking and the campground

Evergreen Park has more than 2,000 parking spaces on its grounds, at no charge. Accessible spots sit near each building. Lot A, the TARA Energy Services lot, is paved and lit, which helps when you walk out after the floor closes at 1 a.m.

Staying over is possible without leaving the grounds. The park holds an RV campground with 75 full-service sites. A trailer or motorhome from Fairview or Dawson Creek can stop there for the night instead of heading home.
